Usually drapes. You can draw the drapes for light and still have privacy with sheers underneath, and you can leave lighter drapes closed and still get bright light. With verticals, you either have them shut, partly open or closed. So you have privacy or no privacy. And they always look the same. And they usually look institutional, whereas, drapes make a window look more like a home. And drapes can be done in floor length or higher, while there is not much of a length option for verticals. And verticals are best installed professionally on a large window, while drapes, if you take your time, can be done by the homeowner. The hardware and getting everything level and even is what requires time and patience. So weigh your time, needs, taste and options, and go with what has more advantages to suit your needs for that particular window treatment. Good luck.

Verticals can lookvery tacky, especially after a couple of years.

However if you don't spend enough money on drapes they can also look cheap.

Other things to consider when deciding between blinds or drapes are -

Does anyone in the house have allergies - drapes can make allergies worse as they hold dust mite more readily.

Is your room a warm room or a cold room. Drapes can visually warm a room up, blinds can cool a room down.

Do you have a lot of other soft furnishings in your house. If you have got big puffy cushions and fluffy rugs and lots of material everywhere then blinds may look out of place.
On the other hand if you have wooden floors, streamlined furniture and not much fabric throughout the room then drapes may look out of place.

Just a few things to think about

Verticals are completely out of style now. You should think about going with some hunter douglas blinds in the silhouette models. Drapes are always a good bet

drapes, curtains, anything but verticals! They are horrible, ugly and dated. They are made out of plastic and fall apart and off the tracks and make an annoying clattering noise when the wind blows thru them.

A fabric treatment on the windows looks so much nicer and are so much more versitle. Check out Pottery Barn and places like that, even Wal mart if budget is an issue. You can put together a nice window.

Depends.

What else is in the room?

How much light do you want in the room?
draps are all or nothing really, but verticals allow some

What room?
draps for bedroom, block out sun, verticals for most others, let some light in.

color plays a key roll too, drapes come in many, verticals not so many. check styles of both before deciding, some will work, some wont.
