Thank you all for the information (read: Warnings!)
After reading these tips I was tempted to postpone the trip. But, living in a cold-winter clime I have all the clothes requied. I had the idea that the buildings might preclude the need for real heavy clothes...you know, 'shelter'. Now I'll go and be prepared. Thanks, thanks, thanks.

You bet. Warm clothes or your 'little apples' will freeze.

I've been there in late December. Although it is a great place to walk areound it can be very cold and that makes it distracting. I suggest possibly layering clothes at least the socks. Keeping your feet warm will help the rest of your body stay warm. Where comfortable shoes. By all means where gloves and a hat. A winter hat not a cap. And a warm coat that is weather retardant.

Yea - you'll need a good coat and I'd recommend some good warm walking shoes and an umbrella. It gets quite windy and chilly in December. It mainly hovers around 30 degrees and it's not unlikely to have snow, wind and freezing rain. Enjoy your trip! I LOVE NYC in December - it's so much fun.

Yes. Winter coat and hat, gloves and scarf and I recommend knee high socks. You will want to bring shirts with long sleeves. A sweat shirt with a hood to go under your coat or jacket also works to keep your head and neck warm and you can take it off when warm. Depending on your age it can also be a fashion statement.

You certainly will. It is cold in NYC. There will probably be snow too. HAVE FUN! (be sure to go skating in Rockefeller Center and see the gigantic Christmas tree!)

Yup. Bundle up! The buildings sometimes help create wind tunnels, so be prepaired to have your hair messed up!

Yes, average temperatures are in the 30-40s (F). You will be outside walking (welcome to NYC), and it can be quite windy in midtown- assuming that's where you'll be...
