First, secure a URL and purchase the website domain name (register.com, godaddy.com). Second, determine the scope of work involved with the site. ie: how much information do you want to convey to the user? Third, determine if this is something that your company has the bandwidth (and resources) to create in-house. Remember that this website is an extension of your company, your brand, and an important touch point for your clients and prospects. I can't believe how many horrible websites are out there. Lastly, contact a few different interactive agencies that specialize in website development work. Submit an RFP and see what kind of pricing they give you.

This is something that is worth spending money on...and worth doing right.

Golly I just got an answer for my question of where is the cheapest place to host a website. These are the cheapest I found...

http://ipower.com/webhosting.html

http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Home;jsessionid=C804914694379BFA6314BDC853A4D187.TC61b?__frame=_top&__lf=Static

it used to cost 19.00 a year to register and keep your domain name for a year. But places like the ones above can do it for 6.00 a year. BUT strangely 1x1 base webhosting package is only 3.00 a year and it includes domain registration.

So it might be wiser just to sign up for the webhosting instead of going to register.com. Register.com is a good place to see if the website name you want is taken though.

Tip: do not pick a name that is too long. hard for people to type and remember.

To create the site:
If you have very little information to put on your site (under 10 pages) maybe you want to do it yourself. Some of these services offer online webpage builders.
You pick a template (pre-made style and design), you add the pictures, and the text. But these templates are not very flexible. If you wanted to make your logo size bigger than normal, the template might restrict that.

However not everyone is artist. If someone gives you a paint brush, can you then paint like an artist. Probably not. That is where the expertise of a professional web designer comes in.
1. He can organize your site for best user navigation.
2. He can optimize the graphics/photos for quicker loading. And retouch and recrop photos if needed.
3. He has the designer's eye to decide what is the best photo and fonts to put on your main pages to make your site look pleasing and the most professional.
4. Some designers are also trained in copywriting. to maximize the impact of your message without using too many words and boring your potential customers.

Certainly web site is more useful. Decide first the purpose of your website. Do you want the same to do your business online or wants it to be showcase. If you are opting for the first option start taking to a software company who can host a solution for you or look for a website designer with artistic bent of mind for your static web pages.

The first guy is right. You need to first register a domain name (like yourcompany.com or yourcompany.biz) from a domain registering site. http://www.Pugmarks.com is a good one for that. In addition to that you need to buy server space for your website with a monthly bandwidth limit.

Once all this is done; you create your website; maybe by using available templates from sites like http://www.interspire.com; and once the design is complete; upload it onto the server.

If you have a proper budget; then you can give all your requirements to a web design companies which could create; and maintain your site(would save you all the headache).

During the recent past NEWS PAPER and Web page hosting subscription has been available at very nominal cost. Thanks, to technological development in recent past.

First thing to do is to buy a domain name, from any of the company that are offering these services and then you can buy the webspace needed to upload your website. You can also buy a combine package of both domain name and webspace, it comes different time period and the payment is on line. The time period may be 1,2,5 yrs. Then you need to develop the site, either you can hire a small company to do this or you can personally find someone who can do this job....The domain name is the name that you type(eg. yahoo) and the webspace is the space is Mb you need for your site(it may be also Gb as per your requirements)
