Your family may attend any OPEN meeting of AA, but they may feel more comfortable becoming members of AL-ANON meetings in their area. AL-ANON is specifically designed to help families and loved ones deal with others abuse of alcohol.
Good luck to you all!

My granddad was an alcoholic and went to AA, and the whole rest of his family went either to Al-Anon or Alateen. My grandad still goes to AA and he's been sober for over 30 years.

Al-Anon and Alateen are very supportive and will help your family understand how to stop enabling you and how to make a good environment for your recovery. It will help both them and you. And my mom still has friends she talks to that were in Alateen with her when she was a kid, so maybe your family will find good wholesome lifetime friends.

Good luck with your recovery. You can do it!

The AA also have meeting that the family attends. This group is called: Anon. When you attend an AA meeting ask one of the members about Anon and when the Anon next meeting will be held.

There should be groups for your family through AA like Alateen for teenagers of parents who are alcoholics, etc. If not, perhaps someone at AA can help you find these resources for your family members. Good luck.

i was in treatment for drug addiction . While there we attended meetings daily. At least twice a week the center would hold therapy sessions for my family. After treatment there is a program called alanon. This program is for the family of the addict/alcoholic. Try looking in the back of your phonebook to see if there is a listing. If not ask your sponsor (do you have one?) where they can go. The leader of your aa meetings should be able to tell you something helpful. Contact me if you need to @ thekidrocks69@yahoo.com......

Al anon and alateen I think those are the names just ask at your meetings. Or you could call the 800 number for AA. Al anon is for families and the alateen is for kids. Both are great. Private counseling would also be good.

I agree with the previous answers. Or they can go to a local support group. Look in the newspaper to find a support group or family AA group.

Most cities have Al-anon it is for families of alcoholics or chemical dependent people.
Good Luck. I am glad you are going to AA. And I bet your family is to. I went to Al-anon to deal with my Dads Alcoholism. Also many cities also have free mental health counseling for Alcoholics and their families.
Good Luck.
