If you've never worked in a shop, the part I have a problem with is how you're sterilizing your equipment. How are you keeping your friends from getting an infection or cross contaminating your supplies.
An autoclave is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!!

The thing about apprenticeship is that you learn so much more than how to tattoo. You learn about the health hazards involved and how to minimize or prevent them. You learn how to work with the equipment. How to tweak your machine or power supply to make it give you the results you and your client are after. Tricks you can do with ink to make colors go in better or stay longer.

Honestly, learning by using guinea pigs on your own isn't going to land you a job at a shop...apprenticing will.

Are you under an apprentice-ship at a tattoo shop?????? If not I highly suggest you check into that. It is the best way to learn the skill of tattoos. Are you certified to do tattoos, (health certs) ? If not I suggest you do so before doing any more tattoos. Are you telling people up front that that you are LEARNING and that's why you are doing free tattoos? If you are not misleading them in any way then your not breaking any laws. (depending on where you live) Hope your equipment is clean and you do great tats for those free customers. Remember a tattoo is for life, you don't want a bad tattoo on your body so don't give a bad tattoo to someone else.

...Are you an apprentice at another shop? Really, that's the best and fastest way to learn. If you apprentice you not only learn the best technique but you also get credibility. Not to mention you could get into serious trouble with the law, or disappointed clients.
Best of luck ♥

I say if your good enough to actually do that and the people that actually let you trust I say that's good! But, doing it for free well thats' not really a smart thing on your part cause I'm an artist on my part and if I did something that other people liked I wouldn't let it go for free!!

Unless you have some proof that you are meeting the health needs of your customers or that you have informed them of the all the risks involved, including the possibility that you might screw up the tattoo... Your are opening yourself to civil action if not criminal action. An apprentice program along with liability insurance for your practice is needed to protect yourself and your customers.

But if you are going for prison tattoos in cell block 9... go for it.

yes, you can get into all kinds of trouble doing it that way. But if you live in a poor hood then you'll get away with it unless you give everyone Hepatitis from dirty needles then you are SOL! Go to school and get a proper license. Then when you get work legally, have fun!!

If you better not let the health department catch you. If one of the tat gets infected and you not certified you could get in alot of trouble.

You really should be working with a professional. If things go wrong your clients could sue you. Think about it.

i think practicing on yourself or on meat is the best way to learn, if you're not apprenticing for someone...
