Just ask him, "do you think we make a good couple?" It's not too intense, and you'll be able to measure his reaction.

Keep it casual and just ask. 'So where do you see yourself in a years time?' You can make it sound even less like a serious question if you give a vague idea as to where you see yourself in a years time (don't go into married with 5 kids). If you do that he will probably think you're just making conversation.

Just ask him. You can't be subtle about it, or else he might not understand what your trying to get at and you'll end up having to ask him flat out anyways. So, you might as well just cut straight to the chase.
