I'm just wondering if its safe to give a 6 month old 1/2 Italian greyhound-1/2 rat terrier puppy Gas-X. We don't purposely feed him people food but he sometimes manages to help himself to a stray bit of food here and there and he'll eat anything, including rocks and bugs. He has some nasty gas at times and I was thinking some Gas-X might help. Any advice?

I stated that we don't feed him people food on purpose. I would never purposely give my dogs scraps!! He sometimes will find a stray bit of food but we are quite diligent about cleaning up immediately so please know that its not the norm for him to eat people food. He does, however, eat non-food items when he goes outside. Hard to regulate, I tell ya! Now, some advice based on that info would be appreciated. Thanx.

there is a product made specifically for dogs for gas problems. check your local pet store for it or if you have them in your area a petsmart or something like that. it would be better to get something specifically made for dogs then to risk a reaction to human gas products.

First, make sure you are feeding a super premium brand of dog food (ie. Innova, Petcurean, Blue Buffalo, Canidae, Solid Gold, etc.). Second, make sure your guy is getting plenty of exercise. I have a doberman (a notoriously gassy breed) and talked to my vet because I was concerned about a few occasions of trapped gas which were obviously uncomfortable for my guy. My vet said walks & gentle massage of the belly to get the gas moving along. I know your guy has no problems with this (lol), but she added that Gas-X as a last resort would be fine. Doubt that beano would help, as that is more of a pre-emptive measure. You might also try adding a dollop of plain, nonfat yogurt to his diet to help improve digestion. Good luck!

no no no no no - you can easily overdose a dog, ESPECIALLY a puppy. And too much of that stuff can cause serious stomach problems and ulcers. It would be like setting off a little bomb in his tummy. Please don't do this - call your vet's office - for something like this they will probably just tell you what to do over the phone. Sometimes they will tell you to give them a certain type of people food like cooked white rice (that helps with diahrrea - probably not gas, it's just an example).

I'm glad you asked before you did it though! That's good thinking!

Don't do that unless you consult a vet!!! Many human medications are not compatible with animals! You can deal with some farts, don't risk hurting your dog. Talk to your vet and stop giving the dog scraps.

Call your vet and ask what you can give it does not cost to call, you have small breed dogs and you do not want to take a chance on overdosing.
