Our cat that we've had for 1.5 years and has never had any problem with going in the litter box has ruined every dog bed I've bought. We got a puppy (now a dog) 6 months ago, and although the animals get along pretty well and play together (that took awhile) I think that our (female, spayed) cat is being territorial. am i wrong? Every time I buy a bed for the dog, or even if the dog spent awhile laying on a pillow on the couch or the bed, the cat will end up peeing on that item with a 1-2 days. I am confident it's not health related as it's happened around 6 times in the last 6 months, with no other timing than when the dog claims a new bed. We have 2 litter boxes for her and both are cleaned very regularly.
Any suggestions how to fix this problem? My husband claims he is going to take the cat back to the shelter that we adopted her from while I'm at work one day because he is so sick of her... I don't want to lose her but it is very frustrating that she's detroying our things.

This is a common problem. Its all about being territorial, even if it meens destroying your things. It also may be jealousy since this just started when you got the pup. Yet, it is an easy problem to solve. Cats are naturally clean animals, and will not eat around the places they use the restroom. So next time you get a doggie bed place her food dishes by it. This should stop her from peeing on it. And as far as other items like pillows, if you have a doggie bed and the dog uses it that should be the only place your cat wants to pee. Hope this helps!!

Your cat is just angry or jealous. I guess be thankful it's only directed at the dog beds and not your furniture or bedding. I don't think it would be fair to just get rid of your cat. After all technically the cat was there first. Be patient and it will all work out for you.

She's jealous and wants the dog gone. I've had the same problem. Dogs will not lie where cats pee and my dog cant sleep on his bed. I'll wash it and she'll walk her little tail over and squat even though she knows she'll be punished. You can only let time go on until they get used to each other.

Sounds to me like shes a bit territorial. Is it possible that she is jealous of your dog? Before, she was the 'only child' and was used to getting all of the attention...now she has to share attention with....the dog. I'm guessing shes not too thrilled about having to share the spotlight. Try giving her extra attention so she understands that the dog isn't a 'replacement' but rather a 'friend' to her. Make sure she knows your love for her is unconditional.

your cat is jealous! this is a common problem with sudden changes in the house! if it is the cat doing it, it's trying to clam the bed!! if you have a puppy, are you sure it is the cat?? i mean have you seen her it doing it?? hate for you to take it back to the shelter and find out when it's too late that it's the puppy!!! how old is the dog?? they are considered puppies until they are 3 years old!!

maybe the cat is trying to "mark his teritory"
A way to fix this is to give the cat a "room" to herself and let the dog roam the house or give the dog a "room" to himself and let the cat roam the house. or spray something that smells bad to cats on the dogs bed perhaps?

So...your cat is telling your dog that, while she will tolerate it, this is her house and the dog better realize that.
