Find someone who is an actual marine, or former marine and ask them.

Be sure that if you go to a Recruiter, that you get EVERYTHING in writing. Promises mean NOTHING if it's not in writing, and the military is WELL KNOWN for lying flat out to get folks in.

No its not safer to be in the Marines! Do you even know what the marines do??????

And if you don't want to go to Iraq don't enlist at all! Cause oh yeah you're goin there!! Even in the Air Force. There is now a promise when you gradaute technical training in the USAF that everyone will go to Iraq at least one time. At least they promised that at my husbands graduation, just imagine how excited I was and still am about that!

Dont trust your recruiter or the people who do your paper work either!!! My husband scored a 96 or 98 on his ASVAB and the guy who did his paperwork let him choose his carreer had him sign the papers and then made a phone call... crossed out some numeical value by his career choice wrote something else in, told my husband it was a "confirmation code" and now he works in a job that isn't anything REMOTELY CLOSE to the jobs he has interests in or something he can use to have a career once he gets out. Guess what the "confirmation code" was? It was the code for the job position they needed filled!!!!!!!!!

A score like that qualified him for almost any job he wanted and now he hates his job, and isnt interested in it at all, he still does a good job but it really stresses him out and hes just plain old screwed unless he reenlists and after this stab in the back why would anyone want to do that?

If you are scared and don't want to wind up in Iraq, find yourself another career!

To be an Officer of Marines you'll need a college degree. If you're intelligent and make good grades you might be a pilot. It depends on your MOS whether you will be on the front lines. I'm just wondering why you would want to be a marine but you don't want to fight. Oh, the Marines do fight on land, they just use the sea to get there.

I served in the Navy for eight years.

1. If you join the military right now, you're going to Iraq, or at least the region.

2. No, the marines is not a safer place to serve. They're marines for pete's sake! Their job is to be in harm's way!

If you want to be a marine, go for it! Just don't expect any part of it to be safe. Even in peace time, you'll be messing around with some of the worlds most sophisticated and powerful weaponry. Just be aware of the facts!

And thank you in advance for serving!

Marines and Army go first to Iraq....i was in air force 1997 to 2004...i know marines have a 85 % chance of going especially since marines are always combat ready

I just got out after spending 8 years in the military. There are a lot of opportunities for development, and the people you will meet make it all worth it. But you must remember your job will be either to conduct war or to support those who do. There is always a chance, and with today's climate a pretty good one that you will come into harms way. Our military is the highest trained and outfitted in the world. What you don't know is that the majority of the casualties in the recent wars have been reservists who are only part timers and thus not as ready or well trained as our full time soldiers. For me their is no greater honor than serving ones country. The best advice I can give you is to talk to people who have been in or are still in, but you need to make the decision for yourself. In choosing which service remember that no matter what your job in the Marines, you are always a rifleman first and must be willing to go into harms way. If you can't do this then don't. Good luck in your decision, but do whats right for you listen to those around you, but its your decision to make. Regardless of your decision remember to always support our troops, and I can tell you I can remember every time any one ever thanked me for serving, its a feeling only members of the military can understand.

If you don't want to go to Iraq, you probably should not join the Marines. We are at war, no matter what branch of service you enter, you could end up in combat. Marine Corps boot camp is tough, I don't know how serious you are, but serving one's country is very honorable and someone has to do it, just don't go into it blind, it is very serious business. Good luck.

Well coming from a Marine if your afraid to defend your country than you shouldnt be able take advantage of the benifits offered by the Marine Corps of any other branch.

don't do it because if you do you are sure to be sorry.and i can almost guarntee you a trip to iraq within six months. if you want to be safe join the navy we always got three meals a day and did not have to crawl around in the mud and be cursed all time. but i'm sure there going to be lots of people that tell you the maries are the best and nothing else will do for you. just ignore it and go navy air. tell your recuriter that you want to volenteer for aviation duty. if you don;t fly you will be working on airplanes all you time in the navy good luck

You obviously don't want to join the Marine Corps. First, if you're thinking about joining seriously, you should already know the answer to your own question. Second, if your attitude is that you don't want to be sent "into harm's way," then you ABSOLUTELY don't want to be in the Marine Corps. They don't call the Marine Corps "First to fight" for nothing, you know.
