You only live once, and it's a very short life so why not live it to the fullest? If you think someone is "hot" and you want to try more then a friendship, why not ask him for his number? It won't hurt, and you never know what could happen. And you never know, he might feel the same way, and just as shy and won't go for it, so if you don't and he doesn't well, then you will always remain "good friends"

Take his cell phone and put your number in the address book. If he calls then he is interested. Now he will know that you are interested. Best Wishes

put the ball in his court...tell him this.."i know you were gonna get around to asking for my number...so i'll save you the trouble" and give him YOUR number. if he calls good, if not...no loss for you.
