The 8.1 is a monster gas motor, but largely obsolete with the Duramax diesel in the lineup. People who have large loads to tow and want a gas motor love them. Why are they being discontinued? One word: sales.

I suppose it's for the reasons everyone stated. Also, with the amount of gas it uses, it will pull down the milage average of the whole company, which is bad for it. It's a sad day. That was the last of the big gas engines from the 50's and 60's still being produced. The other companies gave up their old V-8s years ago.

well, most likely because of the lack of sales. that is why the Camaro was discontinued too.
