Most non-believers are seekers of truth. They are interested in the same eternal questions as believers. Where did we come from? Is there a right way to live? How should I deal with my fellow humans? It's just that non-believers prefer reason and evidence to faith. For some it might be bashing, but it comes from total frustration with people who refuse to question or analyze logically. We want to challenge you to use your mind. To consider other possiblities.
Here are some sample questions.
Assuming there is a God, which brand of religion should we follow? Jesus, Mohammed and Joseph Smith, all claim to have direct instructions from God or his angels. Which one are we to believe? If it was so obvious there would only be one religion and faith would be unnecessary.
Why didn't God give clear evidence? Why for example when Jesus rose from the dead, did he not go back to the temple or to Herod? Instead he choose only to appear to his own small band of followers who had a vested interest in his resurrection. So the Jews went on believing Jesus was just a man, and for centuries afterwards they were persecuted for it by the Christians. Jesus could have prevented all this bloodshed. Clearly he chose not to.
In the Gospels Jesus is also unequivocal on prayer. If you pray your prayers will be answered. End of story. No qualifications, no exceptions, no excuses. But clearly most prayers go unanswered.
Why is there no mention of an afterlife in the Old Testament? Why did God hold this information back?
And how could anyone believe in Noah's Ark and a planet that is only 6,000 years old? It would be physically impossible to accommmodate all the earth's species on a boat that size, with food for a year? And how long did it take Noah to gather all the special foods eaten by different species? And why do Christians seize on archaeological evidence that is consistent with the Bible but reject archaological evidence of civilizations that were around more than 6,000 years ago?
And why was it necessary to punish all the animals for man's sin? Why weren't the fish punished as well? Why did an all powerful God choose such a crude instrument as a flood? And what was the point of the genocide if humans after the flood were just as violent and sinful as they were before? And how could an all knowing God be surprised when man turned out to be sinful and violent? And if God has free will and is incapable of sin, why couldn't he have given us the same nature?
In my experience most Christians know very little of what the Bible actually says. They only know selected passages. If they had read the whole thing their faith would be challenged. They all know the Ten Commandments. But they ignore the punishments, like death for disobeying your parents. They don't mention that Exodus also condones slavery. And why were there so many rules about sacrifing animals? If these passages were superseded by Jesus' teaching, why haven't they cut all this irrelevant stuff out?
Non-believers try to make the theory fit the evidence. Believers try to make the evidence fit their beliefs. And that is the scary thing. Because where does that kind of reasoning stop? Not in the Christian persecutions of the Jews, the Crusades, the civil wars in Ireland and Bosnia or the modern terrorist Jihads.
We don't hate religion. We fear it.

I do have self assurance the note of God I only imagine the folk who're on the vanguard of the Christain community have some fantastically warped interpretation and that i have the right to shield my beliefs as do they . Christianity has tried to undermine abnd damage fantastically a lot the different faith throughout the time of historic previous quicker or later , for sure there are going to be a lot of human beings obtainable who want to provide you somewhat crap , your faith has been doing it to them for hundreds of years. Its a faith and sprituality communicate board , besides I didnt understand christianity replaced into the really variety of religion and sprituality Do what thou will stands proud because the entire of the regulation, no individual hates christians as such we do exactly not like their vanity in believing they are continually proper or the really ones kept and a similar is going for the different faith that sees it followers as better to different human beings , we are all equivalent and all yet not some thing contained in the Eyes of God too upload to this many human beings can't elect your blind faith

I don't bash anyone. And I'm sure, by your definition, I am a non-believer. But I think it's sinful to be negative or define anyone by something they're not.
It gets tiresome that certain Christians believe they have a monopoly on spirituality. My opinion is that mostly they do not understand it. They have the right to explore, however, just as I do, for we are beings on the same journey when all is said and done.

I'm here to study the mind of believers as part of a several-years research project. I ask very difficult questions that are designed to make believers of all kinds, but especially Christians, try and explain why they believe what they do. I do this because I find the subject absolutely fascinating. I never mean any disrespect but sometimes I find the responses difficult to believe and I get a little mift - I admit.

We don't hate religion its just sad to see that very religious people cant answer questions without quoting a verse from the bible. Just trying to enlighten some folks, to have them use their own reasoning and to ask questions that make them really think. Believe because it makes sense to you once you reason out the possibilities. Peace and love be with you.

whitey, i used to be on your side and asked this question all the time.
from about august of 2005 until... October of 2006 i really tried believing in Jesus. around November of 2005 i found out my gf had been cheating on me and man did i cling to God HARD. i fasted sometimes for days... i did every thing i could have to try and make sure God was pleased with me. ....ive read probably 90% of the new testament and 20% of the old. ...im an educated man even though my grammar sucks. and a compassionate and loving person. ...but i think the idea of God messed my head up WAY more than it did me any good. and so I started thinking about the whoel thing and all the little things that never really sat quite right with me but i accepted anyhow.
deuteronomy it talks about marrying the woman you rape.
old testament it talk about going to war with your enemies
noahs arc is just ridicolous
etc, etc.... but most importantly that i want finding God in my prayers. and recently i have started working as a truck driver. i live all alone out here on the road. ALL ALONE. ive gotten used to feeling like God was here with me... and that when i died i would go to heaven with him. but the more i take realistic looks at reality and science and how wrong and flawed the bible is.. the more i step permenantly away from that faith. believe me, i want to believe in a loving God. because i dont want to be out here all on my own. i dont want to die and then when im dead it just all goes to black and thats it. ...those thoughts were very hard for me to deal with... but i think they are the truth. and all i can really say is that life seems for more precious to me now than it ever did when i believed that life went on forever.
anyway back to your question. ...first off, i dont think the majority of the people on this site who claim to be christian really are... people lack such simple life experience to have compassion..and...they are hypocrites. I know i am a hypocrite too but... they get under my skin with their hoier than thow and sometimes passive agressive attitudes and i like to argue with them. ...and i also like to give my opinions about God and the nature of the universe. i think my way of thinking is more enlightened than yours and if i could meet friends who think the same way as me that would be a good thing for me.
.last thing... keep in mind this aint the brightest bunch of people on here and a lot of them are just kids. l..dont let them bug you too much.

Maybe they are searching for something more. Maybe they are just curious. MAybe they are trying to make non-believers out of us believers. Maybe they are lost and are trying to be found, but God and Jesus knows where they are, if they would only put their heart and soul into finding the truth.
God bless you all and may each of you have peace and joy.
