Wearing the collar is a little unusual. It's understandable that you're sad over the loss of your dog- a lot of people don't understand that humans can really form a bond with animals. Perhaps keep a picture of him or her in your wallet? Keep the collar if you like, but maybe in a keepsake box. Just put little mementos (maybe a favorite toy), pictures, etc. in the box. Just because he or she wasn't a human doesn't mean that there's not a very special place in your heart for your dog. My mom and I adopted a Husky/Timber wolf mix male dog when he was just teeny tiny- he hadn't even opened his eyes yet. My mom did most of the caretaking for him, and I honestly think he thought she was his mother, too. He was a sweet dog- very protective. But one of our cruel, psychotic neighbors shot and killed him. He claims he thought he was a deer- I think that's a crock. That was 10 years ago, and I still think about him. Pets are something special.

It's unusual for a person to wear a dog collar for any reason, and the reason that you state suggests that you really need to talk out your grief with someone you trust. If you've been carrying that kind of grief around for the better part of a year, you've got some feelings that need to be resolved.

aww im sorry for your loss our pets really are important there like family i know i have one for 17 years touch wood i hope he continues on much longer.
I guess if it helps you for a short time. you should put a dead line on this though and not get carried away . You have to say to yourself i will wear this under my long sleeve shirt for a certain amount of time on your wrist but know by the day you have chosen to stop you must do just that. if not it could consume you and make it harder for you to get back on track.
Why not keep a small picture of your baby in your wallet or even smaller on a nice heart necklace the ones that open up where you can put a picture in it that way on the outside it looks just like a locket yet you know on the inside your baby is close to your heart.
Good luck , It must be very hard. I can only imagine when my time comes i will be a basket case.

Wierd? I don't know if I would say 'wierd', but I might say a bit morbid. I understand your grief, believe me, I honestly do, but in all honesty, wearing his collar, in my opinion, is a bit disrespectful to his memory. His collar was his own, it should be put away in a safe place where its meaning can be preserved. I understand you want to wear it in order to feel close to him, but by continuing to wear it, you are making it yours and not his. That decreases the sentimentality of the collar. It will get worn and that is not how he left it. If you want to wear something to feel close to him, get a locket and put a photo of him in there. You can look at it whenever you like. If you cannot do that, just close your eyes and talk to him. He can hear you..

Just wearing a dog collar isn't that weird, but wearing it in mourning of your dog... I would say many folks would consider it "outside the norm"

if your dog died in May the mourning period has long since past and think its time to put the collar in the memories box.

No , honey. It's not weird. Some other ppl may think it's weird, but. . . .everyone has weird things about them, an they have no right to judge you. It just shows that you are a sensitive person & you really loved your dog. I understand that. Everyone grieves in their own way. There comes a time when you have to say-you know what? I really don't care what anyone thinks about me. It's what you think about yourself that matters the most!

heh! I know lots of girls that wear collars, but for a completely different reason...myself included. It's all about freedom of expression, doll. If it makes you happy and is a way for you to remember and stay connected to your beloved pet, then to heck with what anyone else thinks.

yes it is kind of wierd
but hey do your own thing, dont let other people tell you what to like and what not too
if you like it go for it!
...but even if you are mourning your dog, you could still mourn over it in a different way
