Most people who ask those type of questions just want to compare other stories and see how other parents have dealt with it. Not just toilet questions, but any questions having to do with parenting. When it comes to my daughter, I always try to go with my motherly instincts on everything, but sometimes it helps to hear other parents' decisions too. When I ask a parenting question, I don't expect anyone to have a 'correct' answer, but I do expect them to answer honestly so that I can compare everyones stories and make my decision from there. At the time I ask a question, I already have my own answer in my head, I just like to see what other parents do in the same situation. The more input you have, the better off you'll be.

There is a remarkable feeling of relief in knowing that you aren't responsible for your progeny's fecal matter anymore. Parents want their children to be toilet-trained because they are sick of having to deal with a child that can't do the potty thing. Posting their frustrations and aspirations on the web helps parents cope with some of the humiliating tasks of childrearing.
