in the old testament there is a god who is one mean bastard who has killed millions and advices the killing of people through torturous means for such little things.

in the gospels you have the kindest most compassionate god that has ever been described.

there is a lot of controversy over this question....for many people believe that the lord jesus of the gospels is not the same mean god of the old testament.

There are these people called Gnostics..Gnosticism became more widely known after Dan Brown's book "The Da Vinci Code." Anyway, Gnostics believe that the God of the Old Testament is different than the God of the new. They call the old one Yaldabaoth..or Sabaoth or something. And the new God they call Sophia. It's really complicated, and I could tell you some more about it if you like. I'm not entirely sure where they came up with all this though..and I don't believe it, I'm a Christian. Anyway, to Jamie R, that is ignorant to claim that the things written in the Bible are untrue. Did you know, the Bible is the -number 1- book looked to for historical accuracy for those times!? To claim that it is untrue is ridiculous, even scholars and professors and archeologists consider it fact. Open your eyes.

The problem is that people now days make up a Jesus according to how they think he should be and not according to what the Scripture says he is. He is the same God as in the Old Testament. God does not take delight in the destruction of anybody but, he does not bat an eye when their destruction happens because he knows somehow it is for the good. In the book of Job they are pretty much saying the same thing about a vengeful God and all that and God really lays into Job --. He says "Where were YOU when I made the Eagles and the seas and the great Leviathan within, and where were you when --- he really let him have it. St. Paul says something that is just right I think though. He says that God is the potter and the pot has no right to say to the potter what it will be used for. We are the potters property. We are animated piles of dirt. We have no being other than what he gives us. He can do whatever he wants to with us. There is also a proverb that says" There is a way that seems right to a man, but, it will end in destruction"

God isn't bipolar; He is sovereign. There are penalties for dangerous offerings, simply as there are penalties for well offerings. Think approximately this: what if there have been no laws, no limits, no obstacles. I imply fairly placed your creativeness to paintings and suppose what individuals might be doing. Murdering one other simply considering the fact that you do not like the way in which they appear at you? (occurs with gang participants everyday-I reside in a gang territory) Rape might occur greater than it occurs now, and nobody might care considering the fact that it might be the angle "oh that is traditional, do just what you prefer". Look at how the individuals loot while it so fits them-Rodney King riots. If you suppose the arena is dangerous now, simply you wait-it is getting worse and worse everyday. Give it one other yr or 2 after which appear again and spot what has occurred then. First you ought to take a well appear across the complete international-no longer your possess international-to understand what is fairly taking place. Turn at the information, watch the parties occurring. Why are not individuals fairly at peace with every different? Why is America and the leisure of the arena in a melancholy economically? Why have not the nations recovered? Why is there such a lot abuse occurring in Islam and Islam seeking to painting themselves as peaceable, while a small institution of them fly airplanes into the Twin Towers? Why is that this? Why is all of it occurring? Do you've an answer? Let's listen it pricey sir. Why? Why? Why? Guess within the OT, you should not mock God. They were not simply making amusing of his bald head. God is severe, despite the fact that He is a God of Love and Forgiveness, He may not be mocked. Right now, you're within the age of grace. I pray you will not be round while God judges the arena and does worse than what the ones youngsters skilled. I pray you do discover the sunshine, however you ought to desire it. If you do not and also you simply desire to separate hairs, then pricey sir, that's a waste of time. Yours and mine.

Yes, there is only one God, therefore, they are one in the same between Old Testament and New Testament. The difference that you see is partly one of being selective (go to the Psalms, many speak about the qualities you describe from the New Testatment), but the main thing is the state of revelation. It was no small thing for Jesus to come and bring things revealed in the Old Testament to fullfillment. It's like when we went from grade school to high school. Things are at a much deeper level now.

God does not change, the triune God of the Old Testament is the God of the New Testament, today and forever. Jesus was God at the creation and is part of the Godhead. Jesus claimed divinity and accepted worship as such.

Joh 8:58 Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Before Abraham came to be, I AM!

Joh 10:30 I and the Father are One!

God is owner of the universe and can pretty much do what He wishes with His creation. If He decided to wipe out the universe tomorrow and start anew, who are you to question or condemn Him for it? God is the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

God is God. Same God the Father in the Old Testament as God the Father in the New.

You may wish to revise your thinking, however. Calling God "one mean bastard" is a little, um, blasphemous.

The fact is that God created all things seen and unseen, including human beings. He is free to wipe out his creation if it so pleases him to do so. He is free to take wicked people from the earth if he chooses, just as he is free to take non-wicked people from the earth. He will take you from the earth one day, and he will take me as well. You may not like this fact, but there is nothing you can do about it. You can hate God and attribute human motives to him if you like, but this doesn't affect God at all--it just impossibilizes your relationship with him.

When you talk about the "kindest most compassionate God" in the New Testament, you may be forgetting that God the Father allowed his only begotten Son to be murdered by human beings. While this is indeed an act of compassion toward us, you are missing the whole great point and gift of it. God allowed mere human beings to put his Son to death (in the flesh) so that we may be reconciled with him. Before Jesus' death, humans were not reconciled with God at all, and had no way of becoming so.

All of this--and more--will become clear to you if you seek to know the living God. That is, if you stop looking in your own limited mind to understand the divine, and if you start searching out the divine on his terms, not yours, you increase your chances of finding--and thereby understanding--him quite a bit.

Yes. The Bible says that God's judgement against the wickedness of the people in the old testament is why they were killed. God is holy and sent Jesus to pay the penalty for our sins that through Jesus we are saved from God's wrath. Jesus said if you see him you see the Father.

Jesus taught his disciples to pray: “Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.” Our heavenly Father, whose name is Jehovah, is described in the Bible as being superior to his Son. For example, Jehovah is “from everlasting to everlasting.” But the Bible says that Jesus is “the firstborn of every creature.” That Jehovah is greater than Jesus, Jesus himself taught when he said: “My Father is greater than I.” (Matthew 6:9; Psalm 90:1, 2; Colossians 1:15; John 14:28, King James Version) Yet, the Trinity doctrine holds that the Father and the Son are “equally God.”

The Father’s superiority over the Son, as well as the fact that the Father is a separate person, is highlighted also in the prayers of Jesus, such as the one before his execution: “Father, if you wish, remove this cup [that is, an ignominious death] from me. Nevertheless, let, not my will, but yours take place.” (Luke 22:42) If God and Jesus are “one in essence,” as the Trinity doctrine says, how could Jesus’ will, or wish, seem different from that of his Father?—Hebrews 5:7, 8; 9:24.

Furthermore, if Jehovah and Jesus were the same, how could one of them be aware of things of which the other was not? Jesus, for instance, said regarding the time of the world’s judgment: “Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father.”—Mark 13:32.

I am unfamiliar with either version of God but look at it this way. These stories are with out a doubt untrue and do not illustrate actual events in reality. If there are more than one version of the same god in the same religion then it just shows how human beings and their mind sets have changed over the centuries ajusting their religion as needed. Don't dwell on the small stuff. Yes they're the same deity yet given different personalities by authors.
