You'll find more info if you look for Danish Modern. It is a more commonly used term.

Mostly the patterns are 60ish with contrasting colors and geometric patterns. The Scandinavians are big on wood so the colors seem to be a compliment to the darker woods like walnut, teak and rosewood.

The light woods came out after the mid 70s to 80s. But it really depends on what colors your sister in law has in her house. Look at Marimekko.com. She was considered one of the preeminent designers in that time and her work is coming back strongly.
