I can't imagine tuna salad without onions. But I've never used mustard. Our way is usually to use tuna, onions, maybe chopped celery and sometimes a little dill. Just enough mayo to make it stick together, plus a tiny bit of salt and pepper.
Sometimes instead of mayo I use a combo of mayo, yogurt and sour cream, equal parts, all low fat.

I just add small amounts of mayo until the tuna salad is creamy. Then I add little mustard and some dill relish and chopped red onion. Sometimes I add eggs if I have any. I agree, you overdid it with the mayo, salad dressing and mustard combo. I personally wouldn't use apple in tuna salad. Maybe in chicken salad but not tuna. Just my opinion though.

this recpe is a little different, but it tastes amazing... every time I've used it it's been a huge hit. The recipe is online at foodnetwork.com
2 (6-ounce) cans solid white tuna in water, drained
1 cup mayonnaise
4 canned artichoke hearts, chopped
2 scallions, chopped, white and green parts
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro leaves
1 lemon, juiced
6 dashes hot sauce, or to taste
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Combine all the ingredients and mix well. Taste and adjust seasonings. Use as a sandwich filling with your favorite bread. It makes a great open-faced tuna melt by topping the tuna with cheese and putting it under the broiler for a few minutes. Or mound it on top of cooked slices of eggplant or portobello mushrooms.

Drained cans of tuna, enough mayo to hold together, sweet pickle relish...depends on taste, one small chopped onion...and the secret....yellow mustard. Add a squeeze and see if you want it more tangy. Very Important.....you must refrigerate for at least 1 hour for all the flavors to meld together...then enjoy. It's the best.

I use to work at a resturant who put chopped apples in there! It sounds gross but they did and it was really good. I think they just did mayo and apples.... nothing else. But the way I make it is the same as you except I add boiled eggs and dont put quit 4 tablespoons, I'd cut that down a bit!

I think you used too much mayo and mustard. And if you use mayo, the salad dressing is unnecessary. Try adding celery salt next time - or even chopped celery.
