Because in order to go thru a Mormon temple, you have to have a Temple recommend and in order to get one, you have to be an active member of the church, pay a full tithing , and live the Word of Wisdom and not break the 10 Commandments.
I am Mormon and as yet, I am not worthy to go thru the temple.

It's not just non-Mormons who can't enter. You have to be morally, spiritually and mentally prepared, which many Mormons aren't. The things one learns in the temple are deep and more complex than the basic teachings of the church. Additionally, you make promised/covenants with God based on what you learn. If you enter without being prepared it is very likely you will not understand or be overwhelmed with what is being taught and consequently may not be able to uphold the promises you made.

It was once explained by analogy as follows: the teaching in the temple are like complex math (i.e. Trigonometry). If you do not have a foundation (like know how to do addition, multiplication, etc.) there is no way the more complex stuff will make any sense.

I would suggest, if the opportunity arises, to attend an open house before a temple is dedicated, it is a great experience.

Many of the replies are accurate here, such as given by Michelle, Isolde, Alec, and Nevada Nomad. Other than dedicatory visits, only those worthy Mormons may enter a sacred temple--and that is after baptism, confirmation, a year's wait, and then the interviews by the bishop and the Stake President for the Temple Recommend.

The temples are sacred and must remain so. To allow non-members within their walls to witness and partake of the special ordinances is not permissable.

Questions about the temples from outsiders do not always merit answers because curiosity is never a reason to know more than is permitted.

Well, as others have indicated, you must be a worthy member of the church. You may enter any of our chapels, genealogical libraries, stake centers, etc. The Temple, however, is a more sacred place of worship and therefore, reserved for those who are living their lives in a way to be spiritual prepared to enter therein. It is not a new practice as anciently only certain people were allowed into the temple, into the Holy of Holies, or to handle the Ark of Covenant. If the Church allowed anyone and everyone to enter despite worthiness, beliefs, intentions, etc., it would no longer be a sacred, holy Temple.

To enter the temple, you must be worthy and you must be a Mormon. A Mormon must go through two interviews- one with a member of his bishopric or branch president and another with his stake presidency or the mission president. If acceptable answers are given to their questions and he is deemed worthy to enter, he will receive a temple reccommend which will allow him to enter the temple for two years as long as he remains worthy.

You may enter during an open house. After it is dedicated, it is the Lord's house. Ordinances in the temple are for making covenants that are appropriate for those who have been prepared. A 'visitor' just couldn't participate.

One quick note. just as mentioned before, one has to be worthy because it is a sacred place where sacred ordinances (or rituals) are preformed. no, not sacrificing anything.

Many other religions practice the same thing. For example, you couldn't travel to Mecca unless you were devote Muslim. Many places in Vatican City are for his holiness only.

Mormon Temples are the holiest places within the cult; they are not museums open to the public. Only certain cult members are allowed to go into the Temples. And only cult members of the absolute highest order are allowed to go into the Main Temple.

Do you think that you want to be a Mormon, and that going into a Temple will reveal what it is like?

Do not be naive. Run for your life.

because you have to get recomends and follow special procidures. it takes a born in church person at least 12 years to get in to the lowest section. And to get in to the higher section you have to be about 19 years old. people have to be asked questions, and follow the church teachings
