It occured to me as a Canadian, that if I just memorized the U.S. anthem, I could infiltrate the U.S., and I would be indistinguishable to the average American, so what is the practical purpose the the U.S. border being closed to most Canadian workers?

Also, if I was an American, I like Benjamin Franklin would be interested in attracting Canada into the union, and an open border to Canadian workers would be the necessary 1st step.

There are several factors. Speaking as an American citizen who plans on immigrating to Canada, we have tough immigration/work policies because Canada does.

Not going to happen, as you have been told, trying to live in Canada, as a illegal is just about impossible. US military deserters, who have come to Canada, and held and after they have been given a Immigration tribunal court appearance, they are sent back to the US border, where the US Marshals, or the US MPs, pick then up, and take them to a US military prison, usually Leavenworth , Kansas, for trial. Seeing as the entire US military is NOW all volunteer, the draft dodger question is moot. Canada and the US share immigration and criminal data information. We also co operate on border surveillance, both on the ground and in the air. Motion sensors, and vibration detectors are deployed in many areas, and of course, the local people also keep an eye out for strangers. Jim B Toronto.

Every country has the right to protect its people, society and laws. I don't understand why people complain because the US is trying to protect its southern border. If I were a US citizen, I would want the government to protect that border.

To answer you, the US government is protecting its labour market because the citizens have the right to work first, then foreigners just like we have it in Canada. I do not want to see a foreigner working doing a job I can do, while I am sitting unemployed. Canada is my country and I have the right to work first. Same applies to the US.

Back to you, I wonder why you even wanna go work in the US since there are high paying jobs left and right in Canada and that also explains why there isn't a work force flow from CA south to USA.

I hope that made sense.

PS: I just read your other questions, you're far from being Canadian to me dude. I think you're just trying to find a sneaky way to get to the US from our friendly border but the INS are smarter than what you thought, aren't they?

The thought of Canada coming into the Union is absolutely ridiculous, and anyone with a shred of intelligence should already know this. Not allowing criminals (illegals) into the US is actually less restrictive than the Canadian policy regarding immigrants from other nations. Canadian law used to state that any person born there was automatically a citizen. That was changed because too many illegals were coming there and breeding. Thats the next step the US needs to take, as this is a serious problem here. Another step that needs to be taken is troops should be positioned on both land borders and shoot anyone who tries entering illegally. Dont get me wrong, I am all for people legally coming here, but thats the step that needs to be taken to stop the flow of criminals into the US.

How would you get a Social Security Number or proof of citizenship so you can get a real job? You could do the same illegal work that the Mexicans do, and you'd be almost as much of a problem. No real way to tax you and no way to hold you accountable for your bills since any ID you have would be fake. You could just run back to Canada.

That's why that border shouldn't be open either. But since you have a functioning government and viable job options, your countrymen don't flood our country at a rate of aprox. 10,000 a day. Get in line, wait your turn and get a Visa or apply for citizenship and come on down.

Well, Americans can't just waltz over here and work either. They need to get a permit, based on a request from the prospective employer, and evidence that it was not possible to obtain an equivalent worker from among Canadians.
We are 2 different countries with different economies - even different economic systems and rules.

Open border with Canada would suck MT, MB, ND dry of people because there not many jobs, and it would be benefit Mainly to Minnesota, Alberta, and the other states near the border will have accelerated population losses. North Dakota is losing 4,000 a year already, and Saskatchewan in the same boat. I would not be so afraid of job being taken as I would promoting the acceleration of suburban sprawl. In the long term opening up all borders in North America be a good thing because the cost of living in warmer states in America is getting expense, and the option of living and retiring in Mexico would make it more appealing to a few people wanting a less stressful life, and a lower cost of living. The open border would harm Middle Canada and Northern States the most because of the cold and the lack of jobs.

We have to stop all illegal immigrants from both sides of the border. we are sick of people breaking our laws. Why can't the Canadians open its borders to all U.S. workers maybe we can send some Mexicans your way. Then they can march and protest in your country for rights they do not deserve, and demand to be made citizens immediately. With the NAFTA super highway being built, from Mexico to Canada maybe you will get your wish. Maybe a sh*t pot full of Mexicans will be coming your way. all the way from South America

Word round the quiet campfire is that Dub has plans to create a NA trade deal like an EU. The plans call for this to have even more teeth. It just occurred to me that perhaps fangs might be a more appropriate term......

We should open our northern border, the Canadians will work with us, unlike the southern border, where the Mexicans do nothing to help.
