Yes... currently Skype is offering free calling to anywhere in the US/Canada. Its a free download.
Not the free LD is supposed to end in 2007. We'll have to see what happens in January.
This ASSUMES you already have a mic/speakers on your computer. Otherwise there would be an initial cost. (to buy the equipment - $15 for a cheap headset)

Skype has free calling in the USA/CA.
Also give Gizmo a try, they are running a promotion where you can call world-wide for free if the other person is also a Gizmo user (you can call their vocie line, not just their computer). I hav tried it myself and it works great as long as your friends are also registered w/ the gizmo serve (free of charge).
