This question was posed to the best of the best when New Scientist published it in its ‘Last Word’ section. One contributor showed that one pint alone can offer more than 5% RDA of vitamins B2, B6 and B9.

However, essential vitamins such as vitamins D, C and A are lacking. Truth be told no one really knows; it’s too unethical an experiment.

The Roman soldiers used to and I read that some orders of monks drank beer and nothing else when they would fast all month. But I don't think you could survive all your life on it unless you throw in some trail mix on the side.

You could drink beer for a few days, if you had no food. BUT! Beer has a high carbohydrate amount, as well as water content, which makes you THINK you're full.

Eventually though, you'll do some serious harm from all the alcohol you're consuming, and your body's lack of food and water.

Absolutely. This one time, my wife was being a degenerate b*tch, and she kicked me out the house. So it was me, my wife beater, and a pair of underwear. First things first...stopped at the convenience store, grabed a 30 rack of bud. To make a long story short, I ended up on the TV show Cops after wallowing in a pathetic state of self pity and semi-gratuitous promotion. Wait, what was the question again?

No. If you drink beer and do nothing to sustain yourself on other nutrients, you will end up with a DEADLY vitamin b12 deficiency, which will prevent your nervous system from working. While you probably could sustain yourself for calorie and energy intake, you'd probably end up dying.

Yes you can for a period of time. The body would adjust
and would sustain itself. The side effects would take a
toll on the body though.Without proper nutrition the body
would not function properly. One could do it for 3 weeks
or so before damaging the body.

You may not survive forever, but you'll have a much better time while you wonder if rescue will ever show up.
