6 mos to a year is standard, but your vet will help you decide.

It really depends on the dog but before the age of one is the best time as it ensures that any unwanted behaviour linked to sex hormones hasn't had a chance to set in. This is particularly true in the case of male dogs. Larger male dogs should be neutered around 7months for best results and smaller breeds can be neutered earlier - around 5 months.
Female dogs should be neutered before their first season as there are absolutely no health benefits from waiting for a first season and you are at risk of ending up with a pregnant dog/being harrassed by the local male dogs! The date of the first season again varies from dog to dog but most bitches are ready to be neutered around the age of one. Your vet will advise you if it is the right time for your dog.

In britain vets recommend a dog should be neutered from 6 months..when the hormones have settled down. For a female usually the same, altho some vets say to wait til after their first season. Its all down to personal preference really.

My vet has always said around 6 months. A lot of shelters are spaying and neutering before 8 weeks. I don't know if it matters for females, but I know two people who got male puppies that were neutered before 8 weeks and both of those dogs had strange behaviors. Both of those dogs also ended up being dog aggressive. ( these dogs do not live in the same house )

Usually when they're about 6 months old. It can be done earlier and is at some animal shelters before they'll adopt them out. I believe it can be done as early as 9-12 weeks. So far there hasn't been any complications with doing it that early, but dogs handle the anesthesia better when they're a little older and if there's any baby (desiduous) teeth that could cause problems later they can be removed. For most breeds all adult teeth have come in by that age, with the canines being the last. Smaller breeds may take longer.

I would say that they stand a better chance of dealing with "going under" after around 6 months, anything younger will be cruel. At least you are being a responsible dog owner and having him done. Well done.

Before 6 months is usually best. A lot of sexual behaviors are learned, and neutering him won't necessarily extinguish learned behaviors (like humping, urine marking, and aggression). Most puppies don't really show signs of these behaviors before 6 months. If yours does, then neuter him NOW!!!

for a male about 6 months. For a female 3 months after her first season.
Phone a vet and ask an expert's opinion.

as soon as your vet says it's ok. i'm not sure if it's the same with dogs but my vet wouldn't neuter my cat until the testes were both dropped. that's about 3 to 4 months.
you definitely want to do it before their hormones start in though. lol.
good luck.
