i've been playing for a few months now and i see a slight improvment everytime i play. One thing i have relized is i can control my irons better. in other words, i can hit the ball further and straiter than my driver, 3wood, 5wood or hybrids. Is this normal or is this talent?

Normally, the lower the iron, the easier it is to it. People in golf will determine effictiveness by height. No one wants to hit a worm burner!

Professionals will most often start warming up with the wedges, then go from 9 irons to 3 iron, then back down. Once they are warmed up, then they move to the woods.

In my personal opinion, Irons are easier to hit than woods because they are shorter, but also, you often times won't try to swing too hard with irons. With woods, everyone wants to 'grip it and rip it.'

I have been golfing sporadically for over 30 years and I personally like my 3 and 5 wood on the Fairway. It goes further for me then the irons. I stick with the irons when I am 50 yards from the pin. It's really what you get accustomed to and what feels and works best for you.

This is normal for starting golfers. The shafts on the irons are shorter than the woods, thus your swing has less time to get out of "whack". (Opening or Closing your club face upon impact)

Practice and have fun...you will get better and the game will be more enjoyable.

Hi: Basically the farther you are from the ball the more difficult it is to hit the ball squarely . Can you imagine trying to hit the ball solidly if the driver was twice as long? But, if you ever did get it right that ball would go! Ken

Irons tend to be more accurate and straight while the woods and the driver are intended to go far at the expense of accuracy.

If you can hit your irons farther than your woods, then you need to work on your woods.

the shorter the club, the more control you will have, and the more misses you can get away with. so, naturally, you will hit the shorter irons best..then go from there.

Everyone hits better with irons. Especially when they first start.

it is normal for someone who has a tendancy to hit a slice.
it is opposite for people who hit a hook.
The reason is of course loft, irons have more loft which imparts backspin which counteracts sidespin which is why you hit your irons better.
