I am a retired NYPD Officer. Upon retirement I was (automatically) given a carry permit. The permit is free for me.....Anyone claiming to be a retired P.O. and carrying a weapon should also have a Carry Permit no matter what state the live in. My permit is ONLY good in New York State. That would be the law in any state.

Actually the answer is yes if they offically retire, they are issued a retired ID and thier POST records will be noted that they are retired.

Some areas still require that the retired officers still qualify each year with thier weapon But like in GA, there is no state requirements, but the department they retired from may require them to qualify each year.

But with thier retired ID, yes they still fall under law as a law enforcement officer and may carry thier weapons without any other carry permit

Also to the person who says that officers leave thier guns at the station has no idea on reality, officers are issued a department weapon and carry it home in most departments, when they retire, it will be turned in, but most officers even on duty carry at least one back up gun, and they may carry any weapons they own with thier police ID or thier retired ID

Although retired from active duty, most jurisdictions allow these officers to remain fully commissioned members of the department, so no permit is necessary. Technically, they are still police officers with full police powers.

depends on the state. here, colorado is an open carry state, so you don't need a permit as long as it's visible, but if it;s concealed, then yes, everyone does.....actually even in service cops have to have a concealed weapons permit, it's just issued automatically.

No, guns are all kept at the local station, guns are checked in & out & signed so watch house keepers knows who has which gun.
Cops do not own their own guns unless they go through the paperwork, permit & gun licence exams like the average person.
