Birth control pills can be effective in regulating menstrual cycles and may lessen the bleeding during your periods and may help with cramps. It is sometimes believed that a woman on birth control pills for a long period of time may have trouble getting pregnant, however, most women return to fertility rapidly. Here are some good sites with some good information.

my girlfriend recently, well like 6 months vago, went on birth control for the same reasons as you. the ppl at the clinic said it will only take up to 7 days tops for the pill to wear off, and u will be able to get pregnant again. I'm not sure an exact website, but try looking up planned parenthood :).
