You asked this in the "Etiquette" section. It is proper etiquette to pretend you don't smell anything in such circumstances. People who say "eeeeeew" and look at others accusingly are simply rude and should be ignored.
Miss Manners would never approve of asking anyone about such things or even acknowledging the existence of unpleasant odors. And Miss Manners would be right - it doesn't make the smell any less offensive to know who produced it, and such odors are not commonly voluntarily created anyway, so what is the point of trying to lay blame? The less attention one pays, the sooner one ceases to be bothered.

My friend had a theory and once I put it into practice it seemed to work
it is very simple
when one smell a fart in a room full of people first ask who did it
then look at every ones ears
for some odd reason when people fart their ears get red and hot
I have tested this and when I confront the individual they break down and admit to doing it every time try it
it seriously works

It is possible, but may depend on the stickiness of the fart to the fart-er and your commitment to sniffing out the perpetrator. A person's body language (do they look uncomfortable?) may also give them away, particularly if the fart is coming "off a turd."
I assume the company is mixed, as men typically try to claim farts shared among the group.

It's a lot easier if there's a dog or a baby in the room. They are pleased to take the blame.

Most people would be too polite to even say anything so it must really have smelled rotton for them to comment. You left an important piece of the puzzle out, didn't you? Exactley WHY do they accuse YOU?????????

Well, just don't blame it on the dog if the dog is outside and you didn't see anyone let it out (like my 95 year old grandma did).

When you smell it, ask who did it. The one who denies it the most is probably guilty.
