My husband has a tax ID number and I have a Social. We filed with two different women and we ended up owing 3,000 dollars. We know that isnt possible. Is there anything we can do?

Neither one of these women will take responsibility and both are slimy. We didnt see this before but other people have told us the same thing.

I don't understand what responsibility you're looking for these women to take. Did they make mistakes on your return?

When you say your husband has a tax ID number, I'm assuming you're saying he has a business. Business returns can get somewhat complicated, so you want to be sure you have someone who knows what they're doing. Do you and your husband file separately? Or was there a business return, for example if the business is incorporated, then a joint personal return?

I'm not sure what being slimy has to do with the problems - the women would have charged you a fee for doing your taxes, and might have been incompetent, but if they're also slimy, shouldn't have made much difference since THEY wouldn't be getting the extra $3000, the IRS would.

This situation sounds like it's a real mess. I'd suggest taking all of your info, both yours and your husband's, to a CPA to redo the taxes, and see whether they get the same results. If they come up with that you don't owe the money, you should be able to file an amended return and get this straightened out.

Good luck.

You need to get yourself an appointment with a C.P.A. They will know what to do and will put you on the right track. I would never go to anyone except an accountant to have my taxes done. They are the most knowledgeable in the field. Good Luck.

At the end of the day, you and your husband are ultimately responsible for filing correctly and paying enough.

Perhaps to contact the IRS directly and ask them what they recommend?

You signed the tax forms so you bare ultimate responsibility. You may have some recourse, depending on the contract you signed with the tax preparers.

Two women can not file taxes together in the USA. Better to get a tax book and read each section carefully on a weekend.
