if methadone is a narcodic you can not get him to "sleep less"... you could try the following though/ might help:

tell him to ask his doctor to lower the perscription
have him take it in the evening/night instead of during the day

Be patient with him. Try spending more quality time together instead of more time together. Methadone is a very strong drug. The only way to get him to sleep less would probably be to see if he could get his prescription reduced. However, if he is on this drug for the reason most people are, you don't want him going back to that, now, do you? The doctor knows what he is doing, and has him on that dose for a certain reason.
