Yes, exactly, precisely.
The job of the Marine Corps is to storm ashore and take command of an AIRPORT and the high ground around it, make the runway ready and set up radar to land planes. The Navy stays offshore for sea superiority and support firepower and then the Air FOrce comes in to the airport to establish over-ground air supperiority and the Army flies in to fight the rest of the land battle.
The Marines are the Navy's wedge into ground operations and the opening of a battle to the Air Force and then the Army.
A modern Army gets smashed and cut off without sea superiority and air superiority. So the first objective is an AIRPORT near the WATER in modern warfare --that's what the Marines do (and do very well because they are always practiciing amphibious operations).

They are a separate branch of Service under the Department of the Navy. They do interact with the Navy in all aspects, however they are still an elite separate fighting unit. As to the Navy only providing bombing and other areas of defense, the Navy provides shore bombardment for all the branches of service when needed. The United States Military does not fight their battles such as the Navy fights this battle, the Army this battle, the Air Force this battle, the Marines this battle. They fight the battle together assisting each branch as needed. Additonally, in time of war, the President with approval from the Congress, can order the Coast Guard under the Department of the Navy, until the duration of the war or until they are relieved of their duties and transferred back to the Department of Transportation.

i could anticipate you want a actual answer and not merely human beings's critiques of what they think of. So: In 1980, the Commandant of the Marine Corps became into made an entire member of the Joint Chiefs of team, and in 1986 under the Goldwater-Nichols Act, the Marine Corps became into given equivalent status with the different amenities. (military, army and Air stress). for this reason, till 1986 the USMC became into an crucial element of the U. S. army yet is now known by making use of regulation as a separate branch of the protection stress.

No. They are their own branch of military but due to their small size are considered to be special forces that have a unique role to serve for our country. Marines are amphibious forces. Thus the need to be under the Dept. of the Navy. Also that is why they train specifically with naval forces. They are also the strong arm of the president. The president can send in Marines for a short period of time without congress' permission. Only after that period of time is completed does the president have to get congress to approve an extension. When the president has a problem with a country its the Marines that go first. Marines are his muscle in bad situations.

Not really. My brother is ex marine (4 tours Viet Nam, 4 Purple Hearts) & my other brother was Navy (Nuke Sub, George C Marshell),They hated each others service. The Navy was the Marines transportation .The also supply the medics for thje marines. My brother in the navy was up set that most officers for the marines were trained at the Navel Academy. The marines have no academy for themself I served in Nam (1tour & that was enough for me) as a copter gunner. My pilot & copilot. were marines & the finest gentlemen you would ever want to meet. Even though I was Army they took great care of me. I will never forget them.

Every military group thinks that the other is sloppy and worthless. The Marines were started as a division underneath the navy, although their standards are somewhat higher as far as the regular, non-special ops marine is concerned.

not at all....while the USMC is under the Department of the Navy...we are the ONLY branch of the service that can be ordered by the Commander and Chief to go anywhere in the world to fight.....
the USMC dosent have a 5-star general....we only have a 4star general....the Commander and Chief is our "5 star "....the USMC answers only to the President of the United States of America....it dosent take an act of Congress or an act of war to send the USMC anywhere at anytime.....
