If you can call out of the ordinary "ugly", then I guess it is ugly in a good way.

I have, and always will be, a MoPar (Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth for you unknowing ones) fan. I do not like new cars but I must say the Dodge Nitro is different, and for that I like it.

Honda Elements are ugly, Hummers are ugly, Blazers look the same as they did when they first came out, and those Nissan SUV things are pretty ugly too. You can't say that Scions are not ugly. I had better looking Hot Wheels cars when I was growing up in the 70's!

Besides being a little different, the Dodge seems more practical than most other SUVs the same size. I test drove one recently and actually liked it. Lots of room for me (6'0 245lbs) and the kids. The wife loved it. There is enough room to be comfortable, carry stuff and not just look cool from the outside. We have considered buying one.

It is a pretty tough looking vehicle if you ask me. If you want to drive around in a little "cute" girlie car go buy a Honda or a Xtera. If you are afraid to drive something that looks like it has some balls, and some attitude then take a closer look at the Nitro/Jeep (??).
Just in case you may think I am being biased, I have been a mechanic for over 20 years. I have driven a LOT of vehicles. I may have my personal preference, but I can honestly say I have worked on far fewer Chrysler products in my life, than any other brand, including Mercede, BMW, VW, Porche, Jag, GM, Ford, Honda etc. I drive Chryslers because I don't like having to fix my own vehicles. I own 6 now, and will be buying another one real soon. As much as we liked the Nitro, my wife wants a RAM, so I'm gonna let her buy one.

i believe they wanted to call it the Dodge Hornet at first, but i guess changed their mind. it looks atrocious(Spelling?) then again i dislike all dodge trucks except the Ram SRT. that thing owns. Neons are ok, but Viper owns all dodge cars.
