This is in response to some answers on my "hateful kitty" question. Is it possible for older, bigger cats to let a younger, smaller cat be the dominant? If she picks on them enough, they eventually end up whipping her but they refuse to eat if she is eating. When she gets done I put her in a different room and feed them. It's kind of weird isn't it?

Yeah, it's kinda weird, but the older cats may not care if she's in charge, they may be okay with it. And if you don't want the younger cat to be so much in charge, you might want to try feeding the older cats first, so she doesn't feel so much in charge. Good luck!

Who are we humans to know the mind and way of a cat? Are these all females? Males like to be the boss, but age does usually cause a cat to seek dominion over the others. Are they newly together or did you add two at the same time? Cats that are added in pairs often form a sort of coup and like to exclude others even if they were already there, kind of ignore them.

I had an old female kitty that NEVER warmed to her intended playmates - a 6-wk old girl and boy. When they first "met", the tiny boy kitten took one look at her, and puffed himself up and hissed, then he promptly wetted himself! The old female and the male sparred for dominance til the end. The younger female happily took the low rank.
