Yes, a one quart jar is the standard for all recipes in a jar. As for the best recipe, it depends upon what the recipient likes. Some people like chocolate chip, some brownies, some peanut butter, and some oatmeal. All have variations, too. Try looking at recipe for cookies in a jar; just type that into Google and you are going see a huge selection of recipes.

One quart size will do.
However... being a former teacher I received many cookie/brownie mixes in jars. So I have a jillion jars in my cabinet that I don't use.
I suggest you put you mix in a container that will be used again. I went to a Pampered Chef show where the lady made cookie mixes in their small batter bowl (I think that's what it's called). It has a lid and is clear. A very useful gift.
You can find it on her website: www.pamperedchef.biz/kitchenchemist
Good luck!

Use a 1 quart mason canning jar.
There are so many "gift in a jar" recipes, from cookies and brownies, to soups.
Make a variety if you want, after all variety is the "spice of life".

Everyone loves chocolate chip cookies! Or brownies!
I'd say to use a quart-sized jar. You can always test a batch first -- and if the quart is too large, you can double the recipe, or, use pint-sized jars.
I'd think a quart size jar would be adequate, though.
Have fun!
