John,
Ask your Dad's doctor's office for recommendations. They may even be able to get a sample for you.
Several people have recommended thrift stores. Don't go there for your Dad. Things are at thrift stores for a reason, and Dads deserve the best.

Go to you local senior center, they usually have a lot of used medical devices like walkers, left to them by the departed. Usually you can acquire one for free but should consider a small donation to help support their programs.

you can ask his doctor to write an Rx for this and 55% will be covered and try asking his insurance if they cover any percentage of it, also a walker should be measured for him specifically to ensure proper height.and if he is a veteran of the army it can be covered through that as well
good luck

try freecycle.org in your area. Post that you are looking for a walker. You never know somebody might have one to give away. Good luck

If he has Medicare or Medicaid--ask his doctor for a prescription and they will get you one for free. If not, maybe ask the doctor for a recommendation.(or the doctor's nurse or office girl) of a local place or government agency.
