beta means that the software is not the complete version. There may still be some problems that the creator is working on and has released this version for testing. It is usually OK to use beta software, as i have never found any major problems. Just make sure u update to the completed version when it is released.

Beta means a new version. Not complete yet. Still fixing bugs, testing it.

beta is another way of saying "test mode".
