Depends Lexy,
I am older now but I have always really really been EXCEPTIONALY shy around girls but when I realized who my special someone was I naturally had an interest in her and what she is all about. I naturally felt comfortable being around her and I naturally felt at ease forwarding a good intention such as holding her hand so, for me, I feel all that shyness around girls was sort of a God given protective mechanism so I wouldn't make a stupid mistake!
So I say...don't worry about forcing what will come naturally in the right circumstances with the right person! Otherwise, you set yourself up for a fall and in turn kind of hurt the right guy out there somewhere too because what affects you affects him in a sort of cosmic/ spiritual way and vice versa! Also, such incompatabilities/disconnection between your feelings and his only serve as a great opportunity to help you to realize whether this guy is the right one for you or just someone you like and think is kind of cute!
Hope that helped

I'm a guy and when I was young and novice it was hard for me to make the first move too. I would just suggest get used to touching him in fun ways first. Like a piggy back ride or grazing his leg or something. Something that is opening the door for him, then he'll start touching you in return and the next thing you know it will be easy to hold his hand.

Lexyy,
You want to hold his hand...hmm...interesting...
Ok, what I would suggest, is when you are walking alongside him next time, and swinging your arms etc (as you do when you walk), "accidently" bump your hand into his a few times, however not directly after one another-with a minute or two in between (if you get my drift?) If he turns and looks at you when you do this, don't break eye contact for several seconds. After several times of this, the next time your hands touch, grab his hand (not forcefully mind you) and hold it like you will.
Good luck with it. :)

funny I went through the same thing, I waited for a week to finally get the guts to ask her to hold her hand. I say do it as long as you can tell he likes you too.

if he was the one to ask you out, then he should ask to hold your hand, or you should just do it naturally. Like when you guys hugged or something, then reach for his hand and hold his hand like that.
I remember when I first started going out with my husband (boyfriend at the time), we just held hands naturally, he didn't ask me to hold my hand neither did I asked him to hold his either, it just happened naturally. Even now, after we're married, whenever I just hook my hand around his albow, he'd grab my hand to hold my hand instead of me putting my hand around his albow.

give him little clues.
like when walking bump into him gently.
"accidently" touch his hand a couple times.
look into his eyes.
he'll kiss you.
unless you are in 5th grade
