Cats that are all white with blue eyes tend to be deaf. White cats with one blue eye, will tend to be deaf on the blue eyed side. It is not a give, but common.

My cat is white with bright blue eyes. He was pure white as a kitten and has gradually developed some butterscotch markings that look like a siamese cat, but he's still mostly white. He is not deaf.

It is deafness and does not occur in all white cats whatever their breed.
If a kitten has a small smudge of grey between his ears he will not be deaf. The mark goes away when he gets older.
I have an all-white long-haired cat with one blue eye and one green eye. He is not deaf.

95% of white cats with blue eyes are deaf. I used to have 3 of them. They are still very good cats to have.
