Are spankings now considered child abuse?

Spanking is considered abuse because there are people who take it too far. I would consider hitting a child with an object (belt, spoon etc) abuse. If you cannot spank there *** without getting your point across, look for another form of discipline. People who spank their kids while they are angry can and have completely lost control. That leads into abuse. However, I spanked my children when they were young and now that they are 8 and 9, I don't have to anymore. I agree with spanking but I do work for child protective services and know some peole who completely take it to far. They put that law into effect because of those people. The children need protection from those types of parents.

Spankings are not abuse; they are the LAW! And any parent with sense will enforce the LAW in their house when a child decides he wants to break the rules.

If spankings were child abuse, then tantrums, talking back and being a disobedient brat is PARENT ABUSE!

Yeah if you slap the childs hand its abuse...I dont get where these people say that anyone who is spanked becomes violent as an adult. Just not true. There is a big difference between spankings and abusing. And people wonder why kids are running all over them now.

Girl forget what they saying if you need to spank your child then spank your child. Child Abuse and spanking are so different to me spanking is a form of discipline. Child abuse is way on the other side. No one can change your mind or tell you what to do with your kids.

Here in Ohio spanking is not abuse unless you injure your child or leave bruises. But a regular smack on the bottom should never do these things and can be effective so that you won't have to as they get older.

Well supposedly in Texas you only spank your child with your bare hand and only on the butt. Anything else is so called child abuse.

There is no need to teach a child to hit, and that is all you teach a child when you hit them. That it is ok to resort to violence when you don't get your own way.
