It would make life easier. That way when you bump into their girlfriend you wouldn't be singing the words "awkward" in your head.

Some people don't have to be single to be available. Haven't you ever heard someone say things aren't going to good? I think everybody is potentially available, but I do have morals and usually won't hit on a married woman. But no ring means available to me.

No, there's no reason for that...just ask..I doubt a lot of singles would want to feel like they were 'on the prowl' anyway...and wearing a sign to let others know you are single, seems borderline desperate...

They do that now, it is called internet dating, we are all single, available, sane, mature, interesting, attractive, wealthy and successful.
Whether we are or not.
Incidentally, if you wear a wedding or engagement ring, you are not technically neither single or available. Without rings, all are fair game.
