First it's important to know if it's a manual trans. or an automatic trans., meaning it could be either the clutch or the torque converter depending which it is. If it doesn't start shaking until after you hit 70, then it's nothing to do with the battery, the flywheel, or the starter gear, but more something to do with the higher gears or one of the shafts. Keep in mind that Ford is one of the worst automobile companies when it comes to maintenance and durability.
If you still need help by the time you read this, e-mail me telling me if it's a man. or an auto., and tell me if the shaking only occurs during a short period of time when you hit 70, or does it prolongue for every speed after that.

Maybe it's a Taurus thing. I used to have a '91 Taurus and it shook when I got to 70.

The first thing I would do is get the tires balanced and that way you can see if you have a bent rim or a bad tire and if all that checks out and doesn't help I would get it aligned.

Your car needs alignment and wheels balanced. Every 5,000 miles I get my oil changed and my tires rotated. They ck to see if the car needs alignment.

Cars that shimmy and shake when your braking, usually means brakes need to be check. Most especially rotors and brake shoes.

Tires are out of balance. You probably parked too close to a curb and knocked a wheel weight off or moved it.

Ok, one- the car is old so take that into consideration, two - older cars werent made to take high speeds, esp. taurus's, but if you still want it i would check the fluids(as always) and check your sterring and suspension linkages for wear or tear that could cause vibrations
