Yes, it is a cross between the Siamese and the Burmese. This cross was developed in North America in the 1970s. The Tonkinese adores people, unfortunately the Tonkinese associates cars with humans and has a habit of straying too close. There are five varieties of Tonkinese cats. The fur should be short and soft. It has points like the Siamese. It is a slim cat with a long tail.

They are a cross between a Burmese and a Siamese. They come in different colors than Siamese do. They can be either solid or pointed and the minks all have very pretty aqua colored eyes. Colors are a little different. A Blue is grey in color. The Naturals are like a seal. The Platinum is a light grey or a lilac in Siamese cats and the Champagne is what would be a Chocolate in Siamese. I would love to have one, having had Siamese most of my life. I hear they have a very unique meow also.

I have heard of Tonkinese. it was a chocolate Siamese of the 1800’s. The foundation cat of the Burmese breed, Wong Mau, had a natural mink coat pattern. Cristy Bird, a Siamese breeder, photographed feral cats on the streets of Bangkok this year, with the mink coat pattern and aqua eyes associated with Tonkinese.

I take it you mean Tonkinese cats http://www.cfainc.org/breeds/profiles/tonkinese.html ? Yes, we had several that came in to the vet I worked for - and I always admired them. Sweet, affectionate, more mellow & softer voiced than a Siamese, and beautiful with those pale aqua eyes & soft facial features. They are real cuties!
