I know of two other people who had this operation due to cancer and neither one of them survived very long after. They were not related and they did not have the operation at the same hospitals.
The thing is that people some times forget when the doctor tells them that the risks of the operation are-------- and maybe 30% chance of survival---the next question being for how long? Lung cancer is a terrible disease. I,m so sorry to hear this distressing news.

I'm very sorry for your loss. This kind of thing does happen after surgeries, especially seriious surgeries such as the one your mother had. I don't have any statistics to show you, but it sounds like your mother went into shock. Sometimes it is very difficult to bring someone out of this downward spiral that occurs when the body just can't handle the stress being placed upon it. I hope your mother didn't have a lot of pain before her operation. Lung cancer can be very painful and frightening.
