and that there's no escape from the war of religions/clash of civilizations?
i'm sorry to say this, but whether you believe or not this war is happening now and it will be a LOT worse in the near future.

this isn't the time for questioning God's existence. it's time to face reality and try to find peaceful solutions.

heh heh. Good question brother.

'Clash of Civilizations', in my personal opinion, does not exist and is a simply cover for hegemony and new colonialism. It was first proposed by Samuel Huntington who was more concerned about the Roman Catholic infllux into the United States from Latin America that would change the Reformist Protestant nature of the North American people.

George Bush with his 'with us or against us' policies has already pushed other countries into acquiring nuclear weapons so I agree with you that it will get a whole lot worse if the bullying and disrespect is allowed to go on.

God's existance will always be questioned as it was during the time of the Prophet (p) and those who do so have a right to under Islam, yet they must be aware that they alone will face the consequences of their decisions.

Peace brother.

It seems that by definition, that free thinkers would have no issue with other people's religious beliefs.

The fact of the matter is that Philosophy, the supposed basis of intellectual knowledge, is grossly nihilistic. It cannot show why life is meaningful. I'm sorry, but band-aids will not work, neither will cheerleaders. You are very right but naive. You seem to see the course that civilization is on and are rightfully concerned.

There is only one solution, and it is a foundational one. It is not religious, though it has profound religious implications. It must be intellectual, for we must all be taught the truth, as best as it is known.

Even today, we know very little about life and existence. Here are 8 unanswerable words: Why did the universe start, suddenly, just once?

Peace will come once all people understand that life is meaningful. Logically, it can only be meaningful, if it is created.

The most peaceful solution to all wars is for everyone to DROP THEIR RELIGOUS BELIEFS. It's the only solution. Religion has cost more lives throughout history than WW1, WW2, Vietnam, and the current "conflict" combined. The Spanish Inquistion, the Crusades... all the Isreali conflicts with the Palestinians and Arabs..(The Jews think they're entitled to that land due to the bible "saying so", so to hell with everyone else, right? Wrong.)
This is the time to face the reality that there is no God, and if everyone would start thinking the same way, we'd all have a lot less problems. I don't just mean christers - I mean everyone of every religion. The idea of "God" makes people kill one another.

i did not be attentive to in united statesa. atheists have been so pushy, eu media and the internet oftentimes instruct the different, with hundrends of atheists experiencing abuse and childrens being denied to verify technological awareness and evolution. here in Europe atheists are extra respectful, too respectul i could say, that's the reason all non secular (expecially minorities) are risk-free by making use of the blanket of politically superb brigade. we are so apprehensive of offending different religions that we are going to not write anymore happy christmas on the line, and confident i'm atheist and that i admire christmas as a wintry climate custom.

Any time is the time for truth.

I agree with you that this war must be fought. But we can fight with honor and courage in the name of secular values -- liberty and justice, among others -- not because those things are sanctioned by some invisible guy-in-the-sky, but because those things are worth fighting for.

I disagree that there will always be religion. Religions always die. No exceptions. The followers of Zeus and Isis thought their religions would last forever, and look where they are now.

That's a pisspoor attitude. Let's just all accept misery and wallow in it. Sorry, I don't live my life that way. Freethinkers are who will change the world. When we all realize the truth at what is at the root of all war and hate is when we will find peaceful solutions.

I should agree with you, but the way you've stated this forces me not to. Should I just shrug my shoulders and let everyone steam roller over me just because there are more of them? Should I really just give up trying to help people find a better way to live their lives?

There is always time to question god's existence, and doing such is not mutually exclusive from finding peaceful solutions. But I find it the height of arrogance to suggest I just meekly give up trying to show people that it's alright to question, even if the answers they arrive at are different than mine.

the peaceful solution lies in understanding this is the work of merchants who twist the truth to get people to fight over what for many is the only thing worth fighting for that being their religion.. When will religious leaders stop being led by merchants, well if we practiced accountability as taught (Mat. 18, and letters to TIM) which is for the leadership as well as the flock. When a preacher is not preaching against war he is being irresponsible, and should be removed unless it really is a matter of survival. War for profit is aggression which is not taught by any scripture even in Islam' s Qur'an

Define Atheism ? Define Free thought ?
Define Religion ? Define Civilization ?

Can a Atheist have a religion ? Do all Atheists have a common point of view ? I would say no . unless Atheism evolves into some form an organised religion you can't ask atheists those Questions and expect that the answer would be representative of them all or a majority of them .

I think Atheists have accepted that there will always be religion. It's a part of life, it's always been there, whether it was pagan, Christian or others. It's always been part of humanity. As for wars, they will always be there. Someone will always want what is not there. Besides, it's good for the economy. There will never be peace. Too many people believe too many different things. It would be rather scary to have everyone believe in the same thing. We would be robots.
