If you're coughing up blood, get to a doctor. It's as simple as that. It may be smoking related, brand related, or have nothing to do with either, but it DOES need to be checked out by a medical professional.

Hi, I highly doubt that you have lung cancer. It sounds like a respitory infection. You may need some anti-biotics to clear it up.
But here's a story for you about smoking. My mom starting smoking at 13 and smoked for 29 years. She started off with Marloboros then because of repetive chest infections, she switched to Marloboro lights then finally Marlboro Ultra Lights. At the age of 42, my mom was reguarly coming down with chest infections and horrible coughing and phlem. The doctor finally told my mom that it would never clear up until she quit for good. He basically told her she was going to die. She has been smoke free for 2 years and no longer suffers from regular chest infections, hocking up phlem, etc. She's terribly wrinkly for her age (due to smoking) and will have to been screened often since she runs a risk of all cancers, not just lung. So throw away thoes cigs and tell your friends to do the same. Good luck and God bless!

Hemopysis (the medical term for coughing up blood) can be caused by tuberculosis, bronchitis, lung cancer (and I've seen women in their 20's with lung cancer - it's really sad), pneumonia, fungal infection in the lung and a few other nasty things.
Do you think that your body is trying to tell you something?
Quit smoking.

Anytime you cough up blood it is serious. Instead of changng brands, why not work on quitting? I know it is hard, but how much worse would lung cancer and a slow and painful death be? What would it be like to cough like that for the rest of your life? Smoking also causes cardio vascular events like stroke and heart attack, erectile dysfunction in men, macular degeneration leading to blindness in later years, emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hastens the deterioration of memory with age, and make you stink. Quit.

If you knew what it was like so not be able to breathe, you would never pick up another cigarette. I have never smoked, but have lung issues which make it difficult to breathe and this is aggravated anytime I am anywhere near a smoker.
Stop smoking - it will kill you and hurt those around you.

Wow. I've smoked for a long time and have never coughed
up blood. and Marlboros are stronger than Newports.
I've never heard of that.........seems like something with
the Newport brand. Know it will be rough.....but try switching
brands for a while and see if the symptoms stop.
Good luck.
