having been a site security manager for a DEERS/RAPIDS machine...in other words...I was trained in Washington D.C. and worked the ID card machines for my state....I will tell you that we do NOT do a background check on you. We have no way of doing one. A background check is also NOT done on military spouses. It is assumed that the employer (if your not a military dependent and are just working there) performed all the necessary checks. All you will need to get the ID is proof of employment which your employer will provide you. If you are a dependent getting a card you will need your birth cert, SS Card and marriage cert and your spouse will have to go with you to sign the 1172 authorizing you the card. As operators of the machines we are not able to do any background checks. That is a different form (SF 86) done through a different program (EPSQ) and only for service members. Hope this clarified the misinformation you had received already.

Are you talking about you being a civilian working on base or a wife getting a military Id. They do back ground checks on both. They check to make sure your not a bad person or a terrist.
