I LOVE my Shiba Inu. Shibas take a lot of work and patience. I was unprepared for owning one, but after 9 years I am so happy I still own one.... er... I mean she owns me! They can be stubborn, sneaky, agile, smart, really fast runners, cat-like and tend to want to be the alpha dog. But with the right training, they can really bloom. Cost for an AKC puppy will run you $500-$1000. I paid under $500 with all the correct papers, but that was 9 years ago. They do have Glaucoma in the breed, which I just found out about. This can lead to a very costly vet bill. Be sure to check with the breeder on Glaucoma and if their dogs eyes have been tested. My Shiba Inu Dobi is featured in this month's Petco ads and on TV and has her own website, http://www.MyDarnDog.com

If AKC registered and sold on a spay or neuter contract the breeder should sell for around 600-1000. That is a real low and high for a range. Most breeders, if you tell them you want a pet quality will cut you a deal. You can always ask to co-own the dog, so the breeder can retain breeding rights later. Some breeders love this because it allows them to keep their options open. Some pet dogs are sold as pet because the breeder is not confident that it will have show potential, but sometimes they develope and the breeder regrets his decision to spay or neuter. Get to know a few breeders and talk openly. Most people who care about their dogs want them to have good homes first, they are not as concerned about the money. Unfortunately I don't think you'll get one for free, that would be nice though!

I tried to find a site that would actually state how much you might pay of this breed of dog, but I wasnt able to. I did find the below website about shiba inus and a way to contact breeders. I am sure they can give you that information.

I had a Shiba Inu, and enable me enable you to already know...they're obdurate and characteristic a tendency to be aggressive. (My dad have been given bit to the bone 7 cases via this dogs, he had to be positioned down). This grew to become into after many obediance instructions. yet guy are they lovable! i like pugs although...non violent and lazy :-)

A friend of mine bought one a few months ago for $400.00 from a private party (purebred but no papers). Great dog. They are spending alot of time socializing him - dog park everyday. Apparently this type of dog like to be in charge from what I've been told. Hope you find your dog - good luck!

Any pup w/papers you're looking at at least 1000. I'm not sure about the specific dog, probably more.

I just saw one of these dogs last weekend....it looks like a little fox! My neighbor has one, seems like a very well-tempered dog.
