Well im not sure what to say about "Devil Worshippers" other than I think they have been mis-informed, I Myself am a Satanist and basically any information you seek about us can be found at www.churchofsatan.com . We dont kill animals or babies like we have so often been acused, nor do we go out seeking new members, new members seek us. But since im a nice guy you can pm me if you like im bored anyway and I'll help if I can.

I don't know much about the Gothic culture so I have no comments on that.

I am Wiccan myself and someone suggested reading The Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey to see first hand the differences between Wicca and Satanism and why exactly so many people believe Wicca is worshipping the devil. I haven't read it yet but I do own it and I believe that is something you might consider for your class. It's not expensive to buy. I really can't see the library having it but you never know.

Goth is nothing more that a style chioce. Satanism on the other hand is a different thing. It is all a quest for power. And a few misguided souls have chosen Satanism because they simply want to be (literally) anti-Christian. What is most distressing to me than even in these "modern" tines people are still confusing Wicca and devil worship! There is a large Satanic group in San Fransisco, can't recall the name of the original leader (now deceased). You might try Satanism on Google or Wikipedia. Good luck

Well, the difference, between Gothic and devil worship is the following:

Gothics:
1) They like wearing black
2) Some wear a lot of piercing
3) Most don't believe in GOD
4)Most like wearing a lot of black jelewry
5) Depending how deep you think you are, most wear baggy pans.
6)Heavy make up

Devil Worshipers:
1) They tend to dress in black, and sometimes wear the six point star, use for calling forth spirits.
2) They look like goths, with the difference that they worship the devil.

Actual devil worship? As in reverse Christianity? Because there are numerous types of Satanists. Try these sites:

For Reverse Christianity Devil Worship:
http://www.traditionalsatanism.net

For Theistic Satanism in general (not all of it is reverse Christianity): http://www.theisticsatanism.com

For LaVeyan Satanism (they're pretty much atheists):
http://www.satanism101.com/

As for Goths - that's a totally different thing. Here is an informative page about the gothic subculture:
http://www.whitefantom.com/goth/

Good luck!

Satanism, other wise known as one of the many religions of "devil worship" is not all about worshiping the devil it is more about...How can I best put this?...self-importance. Where the Christian religion teaches you "to place the needs of the many above the needs of the [one]" Satanism teaches you the opposite. It encourages you to do what is right for you and yours before you do what is right for everyone else.

I am sorry to say that that is the only information that I can provide to you about the religion of Satanism. However, here is a website that I did research on during my one-year-one-day transition from Christianity to Wicca (as that is the time that you are not only supposed to research Wicca, but other religions as well - in order to discover what is right for you): the House of Satan (http://www.churchofsatan.com/home.html).

Goth has nothing to do with Devil worship, It is a way of dress, a sub pop culture. I am sure that there are Goths out there that may worship Satan but I can also find Goths in churches as well as at Beltane. It is more put in a category (for lack of better term) as a punk rocker, or a medal head.

Try http://www.religioustolerance.org, maybe some Wicca sites for their take on why they're not devil worshippers. They're used to defending themselves, and they have plenty to say about the differences between their groups.

But remember, you're going to get two types of devil worship: historic devil worship, like Salem Witch Trial stuff, and neo-Gothic (modern-style), like Anton LaVey stuff. They're fairly different flavors.

And I wouldn't take what Satanists say 100% seriously--you'd probably be better off looking at sites where people are talking about them, not where they're talking about themselves. Sometimes, they're like, "oh, we're super-bad," and sometimes, they're like, "we're not bad...we're just into the natural expression of humanity" or some new-age garbage like that. But the old-school witch-hunting stuff is generally based on a witch-hunter extracting "confessions", all of which sound the same because they got them from the same lurid writings, like the Malleus Maleficarum. Which also isn't reliable.

The worst stuff is usually cult-related, which doesn't have anything to do with the Church of Satan (I wouldn't call them *benign* exactly, but they're fairly toothless), but rather, is based on psychopathic killing, torture, violence, mutilation...all very bad indeed. But that's not organized religion, more a bunch of malcontents getting together like a pack of wild dogs and going on a killing spree. Don't get bogged down in that stuff, because that's not your usual devil worship, any more than a cult that reads the Bible is a "Christian" cult. Cults use the idea of religion as a shield to try to validate their activities, but they certainly aren't the norm when it comes to religious institutions.

Try the book _We're Not in Kansas Anymore_, by Christine Wicker, a fantastic book on voodoo, hoodoo, witchcraft, Satanism, vampirism, even a few werewolves and dragons.

I just saw the History Channel special on Hell recently for the second time--they got permission to go to a Church of Satan "Black Mass." Holy shnikes--what a load of crap! It was one of the hokiest, cheeziest, stupidest things I've ever seen. It was like Goth Talk on Saturday Night Live, except it wasn't funny. I think they were serious. It was awful, just made me cringe. I was actually a little embarrassed for the Satanists--they looked like such flaming jacka sses. That has to be the worst recruiting video ever. Check out that site--they might have some info on hell and the Antichrist special was good, too.

Oh, and don't put Gothics in with devil worshippers, either. Many of them are more into ceremonial magic, Egyptian stuff, more Aleister Crowley stuff. Or they're poseurs. But just because Satanists and Goths sometimes dress alike, don't put them together--there is some overlap, but they're not quite the same.

The two have nothing to do with one another. Being Gothic is more or less a frame of mind or style. Satanism (if that is what you are referring to) is more about the worship of self and indulging one's self in carnal pleasures.

Blessed Be
