Agree with null. Try an unripe berry then try a ripe one. Big difference--of course I know this is not what you are referring to but this is what you asked.

The idea, for fruits and such, is the darker they are the more ripe they are and naturaly the better tasting(sweeter). It's true with most fruits, after all. You want the bright red juicy berries...not the light red white ones.
