...in the previous years for it to recieve this much attention? I would truly love to know why all of a sudden there are news stories about illegal immigration. Why the government decides now to do something about it. Someone please educate me and tell me why all of a sudden we are focusing on it. There have been illegal immigrants for years and years, has there been a major increase? Or have they(gov't) finally figured out that there has been that much going on? I think all people have a right to come here and make a living, but legally. Just wanting to know. Thank you.

I live in New Mexico, which seeing illegal aliens was second nature. But, I can see why it caused so much attention, with the protesting and all. That is when I started hearing more of this issue. Thank you!

Well for the people living in border states it has always been a problem.
Now the reason it is coming to every-ones attention is for a couple factors. 1) The Minutemen, when that organization started their patrols at the border it made Americans sit up and take notice....and boy did they notice how horribly our southern border really is. Americans saw that the southern border is as open as a Montana sky.
2)The rallies that took place in May, total outrage ran thru America when the images of the rallies hit the airwaves. Upside down American flag under the flag of Mexico. More outrage.
Now put those combinations together with actual media outlets reporting more and more on costs of illegal immigration, crimes committed by illegals, stolen SS numbers. And Americans learning about organizations like La Raza and Mexica Movement , what you get is a sleeping giant coming awake.

In my state of Arizona its been an on going problem for years. But when the illegals decided to march and chant anti American slogans, desecrate this nations flag, insult legal Americans.Well they opened up a hornets nest.People that were passive about illegals suddenly got upset and were very angry at them for demanding rights as if they were legal. So the illegals now have a very bright spot light on them.Every thing they do is examined and highlighted. So now its become a huge issue. The illegal supporters that started all this are really to blame for all of this negative attention..There is not a problem with legal immigration, they are welcomed here but illegal aliens are not.

It's starting in California and Arizona. Both states are being overwhelmed at the cost of providing medical care, ADFC and food stamps, education, and so forth. Not to mention drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and costs that accrue when uninsured motorists have accidents. There's no guest worker program, so individuals and companies do their best to hire illegally present workers and pay them cash. That means no tax, no health care, no workers comp, no nothing. Illegal workers are really cheap, if you don't get caught. If an illegal alien gets hurt on the job, he's just screwed. If there was a program that said people coming here to work have to be paid on the payroll and the people who hire them have to deduct their income tax and medicare - all those people hiring them would suddenly realize that THEY are the ones who are screwing California and Arizona, and it's Joe and Sally Citizen who are getting stuck with the bill.

Well, everything was fine until they started protesting in spanish for rights from a country in which they are here illegally to begin with. They change the national anthem into a spanish version that is nothing like the national anthem. They call americans lazy, but they're the ones taking over our benefits and schooling programs. That's when Americans really started thinking and came to the conclusion that this is not right. They came to the conclusion that they are being stripped from their rights at a rapid rate due to the illegal immigration phenomenon. Me being one of them that is very upset. Did they really think they could do that and nobody was gonna get mad about it? They are definitely naive to the American patriotism. I also don't understand what the difference is when they complain about rights and we complain about them being here.

It's become a large problem because the population is out of control, taxes are on the rise, and citizens are starting to see the bad aspects of it more now than ever. Don't you remember the "day without immigrants"? The American people are outraged.
The government is deciding to make changes because so many people are complaining. If they want those votes, they better appease the people.

the problem is getting worse because-like u said-we havent fixed the problem-dems r noww in charge of congress and need something to keep them in charge-which i hope they do go hard on illegal immigration. illegal immigrants take up welfare and low paying jobs kicking many others, especially the african americans(im not racist-dont worry)-and they r increasingly complaining-which is also good. im actually doing a political science project on illegal immigration. it is a burden on the country.

Due to the large number of illegals it is starting to hurt our governments income. Also, many of these people are getting free medical and many other benefits that are costing millions.
