off the top of my head i think osmosis involves water moving from areas of high concentration to low ones while diffusion is a general term for molecules moving from high to low concentration.

Osmosis is the movement of solvent through a semipermeable membrane fromhigh concentration to lower concentration.
Whereas diffusion is the movement of anysolution or gas whatever it is from high concentration to lower concentration in any medium like water or air..

OSMOSIS: "Movement of water molecules from a region of higher potential to a region of lower water potential through a semipermeable membrane"
DIFFUSION: "Net movement from one point to another because of random kinetic activities of molecules or ions from region of their own higher concentration (amount of substance or number of particles per unit volume) to a region of their lesser concentration."
