You can take 2 pills safely.

Some doctors will prescribe 1 pill morning and night - other doctors will prescribe 2 pills per day.

It is quite safe (I've seen some specialists prescribe up to 4 pills a day!)

Hmmm - looking at your FDA stuff, it's slow release. So once a day would be the go. Taking 2 pills would be like taking 1 single 40mg omeprazole.

I suffer from Acid Reflux as brought on by weight changes and my dad has heartburn in his older age from food choices. My acid reflux causes me to cough, much more at night during the day and it gets worse when I lay down because the acidic contents of my stomach have an easier time reaching my esophagus than during the day. Also, it has been said that for whatever reason stomach acid is more potent at night than during the day. Not sure how that works. But my dad saw a specialist in allergies and got a second specialty in things like heartburn and acid reflux because a lot of people mistake symptoms of acid reflux for allergic reactions. He prescribed my dad 2 omeprazole tablets like Prilosec to take - 1 in morning and 1 at night. I don't know of any real health complications or drawbacks to taking 2 per day regularly during the 14 day course and I've seen a specialist too with Virginia Mason who didn't warn me against extra omeprazole. Some tablets or capsules are 40mg, though they aren't as common. I would assume that if your condition is a little more prevalent/extreme the extra dosage would be warranted. But I bet 20mg is the standard because it knocks out most peoples' issues.

I'd say that if you need to take more and can't afford to see a doctor because you're without medical insurance, go for it. There is no known risks from what I know, and I've researched acid reflux a lot because my cough gets annoying. For me, sometimes losing a few pounds actually kills off the problem entirely because weight gain in the stomach or waist region can put extra stress on key points internally that can create more problems in this area. But not every case is like mine, so do your own research and make your own deductions based off of yourself.

If conditions don't improve with an extra bit of omeprazole, then definitely talk to a doctor to see about stronger/more medication in a day's use or trying something entirely different. For acid reflux there is a condition where the stomach/esophagus passage doesn't close properly, allowing acidic contents to spill into the lining of the esophagus and it will create irritations for you even if you neutralize the acid in your stomach. This would be untreatable with medication and requires what I'm told is a pretty common and safe operation to permanently fix the issue entirely.

The usual dose for stomach ulcer is 1-2 tab prilosec (20 mg each) per night.
But for Reflux disease the dose has to be much higher indeed.
you may need up to 6 tab a day & you may need few weeks of treatment before you notice eny benifit.
this fact is not well known outside the medical community, even doctors dont know that reflux disease needs a higher dose.
to answer you question, yes you may take 2 tab at night & if you didnt feel good (like my wife) you may take another 2 tab in the morning.
reflux disease can be a sinister condition sometimes.
good luck & dont eat spicy food,ok?

You should talk to your pharmacist to see if it is ok because doctors don't always know the best about medicine. Your pharmacist can review any other medication you are on & tell you the real benefits/risks.
